IELTS Speaking Practice with Evaluation

Whether you're taking the Academic or General Training version of IELTS, the Speaking test remains identical. These practice materials are designed to help you prepare for the 11-14 minute face-to-face conversation with an examiner that assesses your spoken English proficiency.

Test Format Overview

Part 1: Introduction & Interview

4-5 minutes

This warm-up section features questions about familiar topics - your background, interests, daily life, and experiences. The examiner wants to hear you speak naturally about things you know well.

Part 2: Individual Long Turn

3-4 minutes

You'll receive a topic card and have one minute to prepare before speaking for 1-2 minutes. This tests your ability to speak at length on a given subject without interruption.

Part 3: Two-Way Discussion

4-5 minutes

The examiner will engage you in a deeper conversation connected to Part 2's theme, exploring more abstract ideas and requiring you to justify opinions and analyze topics.

Effective Practice Strategies

  • Find a practice partner - Work with a teacher, tutor, or friend who can play the examiner's role
  • Simulate test conditions - Complete all three parts consecutively without breaks
  • Speak naturally - Avoid memorized responses; the test values spontaneous communication
  • Focus on fluency - Speak at a natural pace without unnecessary pauses
  • Expand your answers - Provide more than just yes/no responses; explain your thoughts

Recording Your Practice Sessions

Using your smartphone or computer to record practice sessions allows you to:

  • Review your pronunciation and fluency
  • Identify areas needing improvement
  • Track your progress over time
  • Notice filler words or hesitation patterns
